The purpose of the city income tax is to provide funds for municipal services such as police and fire, parks and recreation, maintenance of infrastructure, new equipment, and capital improvements. The Milford City Council approved Ordinance #424 on August 1, 1972, which established a city income tax. On October 3, 1978, the City Council adopted Ordinance #669, which set the tax rate at 1% and eliminated credit for tax paid to another city.
The City has mandatory registration for all residents who live in the City, all employers, contractors, and subcontractors who perform work within the City.
