South Milford House Tour
On Sunday, November 25th the South Milford Neighborhood History Group is hosting a historic home tour to raise money for publishing a history of the neighborhood. South Milford is one of Milford's oldest neighborhoods. For ticket information, please call Coleen Binning at 831-4602 or Cathy Gatch at 831-0412

The houses on the tour are:

102 Cleveland Avenue-- In 1895 this charming Queen Ann style house was the home of Edward and Kate Harding.

72 Mound Avenue-- In Frank Julien's time (1913) this house was small and insignificant by today's standards. Now it is a rosy stucco showplace, thanks to Anna Louise Baldwin's renovation in the 1920s.

42 Cleveland Avenue-- In 1904 this was the residence and office/hospital of Dr. C.J. Spence, a "railroad doctor" who performed many operations and amputations. This home had Milford's first basement garage so the doctor's car would be warm for quick house calls.

515 Mill Street-- First created as the Milford Free Gospel Chapel in the late 40s or early 50s, this building is currently being remodeled into a unique family home by Shannon and Maggie Reynolds.

780 Garfield Avenue-- Construction of this stone house began in 1820 by Judge John Pollock. It was sold by his widow to John Newton Gatch in 1850 and remains in that Gatch family to this day.

404 Mill Street-- Built at the turn of the twentieth century by Walter Scott, this graceful home is often referred to as "the Murphy home" for Dan Murphy, a colorful character who lived there.

Holiday Decorations Contest
The Milford Beautification Task Force (MBTF) is sponsoring a yard-decoration contest. The City will be divided into six areas, and a member of the MBTF will choose two houses with outstanding decorations from each area. From these twelve, the MBTF members will choose the overall first and second-place winners, who will receive a plaque to place in their yard for a month. Decorations should be in place by December 9th, and the overall winners will be chosen by December 13th.

To help decorate the City with holiday cheer, the MBTF will decorate the downtown bridge with garlands and bows. Because of the new construction, the bridge has not been decorated in two years.
