The
City of Milford’s Garbage and Recycling
Program
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Garbage Sticker Amnesty July 21-31, 2008 (pdf)
The
City of Milford operates a
volume-based solid-waste-management program.
The program is provided to single-family
residents, and apartment
residents with five or fewer units. We require
all residents to put stickers on their garbage.
The
City provides each household with 52 stickers per
year, which are sent out quarterly, so residents
receive 13 stickers at a time. This means that
one can of trash per week is paid through residents
earnings tax. Rumpke is your carrier, but you will
never receive a bill from Rumpke. In fact, you
will never receive a garbage bill from anyone.
Garbage
Cans
You
are more than welcome to put out as many cans
of trash per week as you like, but you are responsible
for purchasing additional stickers for your extra
cans. Garbage stickers are $1.00 each and are available
at City Hall, Kroger, Lehr’s Meats, and Main
Street Deli. You are not required to use a garbage
can, but you are limited to a 33-35 gallon can
if you do. But if you choose to use a larger garbage
can (50-75 gallon or more) you must use two stickers
if not full and three stickers if full. You may
put your sticker on the top of the lid, the bottom
of the lid, or on the top bag, after you have taken
the can to the curb and the contents have settled.
Any extra bags that do not fit in the can must
have a sticker on them.
Curbside/Alley
Collection
If
you have an alley behind your house, please
contact the Solid Waste and
Recycling Coordinator
to find out if you must place your cans in the
alley. Otherwise, your cans need to be placed
at the curb. The garbage collector is permitted
to operate as early at 5:00 a.m., so please put
your garbage out the night before. Additionally,
garbage cans must be removed from the curb or alley
within twenty-four hours of collection.
Garbage
Stickers
Quarterly
you will receive by mail enough stickers to dispose
of one can or bag of garbage per week.
These stickers usually arrive the last week of
January, April, July, and October. The post office
will not forward the quarterly stickers. Please
look at the sticker flyer for the next date of
delivery. If you will be out of town during the
delivery, please call the Solid Waste and Recycling
Coordinator at 513-248-5092.
Curbside
Recycling
Curbside recycling
in Milford is free. The goal of a volume-based
solid-waste-management program
is to increase recycling and therefore decrease
tonnage to the landfill. We accept many items for
recycling, including newspaper, glass, aluminum,
plastics #1 and #2, corrugated cardboard, paperboard,
mixed paper, and junk mail. We offer single-stream
recycling, which means that all recyclables can
go in the same recycling bin. The only stipulation
is that corrugated cardboard must be flattened
and cut or torn into 2 foot by 2 foot pieces. Your
garbage and recycling account will be activated
when you contact the Solid Waste and Recycling
coordinator at 513-248-5092. If you've moved into
a previously occupied house, there should be a
recycling bin waiting for you, but if not please
contact the Solid Waste and Recycling Coordinator
at 513-248-5092. Cracked or broken bins may be
replaced at City Hall and additional bins may be
purchased for $7.00 each.
Yard
Waste
Yard waste, such as grass clippings and bush trimmings,
may be disposed
of in a clean, empty trashcan or
in a yard-waste bag, which you can purchase in
the garbage-bag aisle of Kroger. All yard-waste
containers must have a yard-waste sticker attached.
Yard-waste stickers are $2.00 each and available
at City Hall, Kroger, and Lehr’s Meats.
Large
Items
Large
items over 75 pounds, such as a recliner, couch,
a washer, or a dryer, may be placed at the
curb or alley but must have a large-item sticker
attached. This sticker is $15.00 and only available
at City Hall from 8:30-4:30, Monday through Friday.
If you are not available during those hours, you
may send us a check and a self-addressed, stamped
envelope with attention to “Large-item Sticker” at
745 Center Street, Suite 200, Milford, Ohio, 45150.
For refrigerators and air conditioners, the freon
must be removed first.
